Nothing is familiar forever,
Suddenly the ordinary becomes foreign.
Like the number my fingers knew by heart,
Like the voices that once felt like home.
The swings that bore my weight daily
Have perhaps forgotten my loud laughter.
The books that rested in my hands so often,
Now sit in the hands of another.
I wonder if these things I’ve known
Ever miss the person I was then.
I do miss the way they welcomed me,
Before I became too busy to stay.
