All Father

Jabberwocky

Like Zeus then from Olympus high
I watch the traffic passing by,
And wonder if to intervene
Upon the lives that I have seen.
Some seem well set upon their way,
Others seem to me to stray
Down paths that can not lead to joy
For any mortal girl or boy.
To steer them true might be fond love
Descending to them from above.
I muse this thought and feel my scars,
As reason so with pity spars.
My wisdom wears me like a cloak,
And from my heart all love does choke.
Ive seen too much to risk at all
On chances slim and very small;
Too often my brave heart has bled
Though oaths that broke and thanks unsaid.
I'll leave my majesty in tact
And let some younger god then act,
With hope yet in his heart for men.
I will not be that god again.
