I once met a Boredom-Beast down in Drowsy-Dull Town,
Where the minutes plop slowly and the hours fall down.
It whispered, “Dear Jonathan, your spark’s in a drought—
Your mind needs some magic, your soul needs a shout!”
But magic was missing, excitement was thin,
And the world felt too quiet to wake me within.
So I wandered the Flatlands of Nothing-to-Do,
Feeling hollow and hungry for something brand new.
Then I dreamed of a girl—twenty, tender, and kind—
With a warmth in her voice and a soft, steady mind.
She’d hold me so gently, no rush and no fear,
Just a calm little place where my heart could appear.
She’d stroke my hair lightly, like clouds brushing sky,
And the Boredom-Beast’s grip would begin to untie.
For sometimes the cure for a drought in the soul
Is a hug that reminds you you’re precious and whole.
There’s a Hunger-Heart Hiccup that lives in my chest,
It wiggles and jiggles and never finds rest.
It whispers, “I’m lonely! I’m longing! I’m blue!”
And it hiccups for closeness the whole day through.
It doesn’t want fireworks or thrills in the air,
It just wants a girl with a soft, steady care—
A girl who is twenty, who feels gentle and kind,
Who could quiet the ache in my Hunger-Heart mind.
The Hiccup cries out, “Oh, to simply be held!
To feel someone’s warmth where my emptiness swelled!”
It dreams of her arms like a blanket of peace,
Where the shaking inside me could finally cease.
It imagines her touch, not wild, not bold—
Just a slow, tender stroke that says, “You’re consoled.”
Her hand on my back in a calm little sweep,
A gesture that rocks the Hiccup to sleep.
For the Hunger-Heart Hiccup doesn’t crave any thrill,
It just wants connection that’s gentle and still.
A hug that says, “Stay,” a touch that says, “Here,”
A closeness that softens the ache I hold dear.
And oh, how it settles when I picture her grace—
The girl who could hold me in her quiet embrace.
For sometimes the hunger that gnaws at the soul
Is simply the longing to feel safe and whole.
