Glass

Jabberwocky

I don' t get out much as a rule,
I have two children still at school.
Their mother left us long ago
For freedoms I can never know,
Or value much the truth be told.
Family's worth more than gold.

I do my best, do what I can,
I meet the tests of being a man

They are my burden and my joy,
Ones a girl, and ones a boy.
He looks like her, she looks like me
Though both full of gentility,
Which she did lack, in spades, alas.
Half full half empty; that's my glass.

What a tale within such few words. Nicely rhymed and with good meter and flow. Honorable father taking care of what he created. I loved the part that says he looked like her and her like you such a nice way of saying all are one. Well done my friend

Thank you so much for this and other kind comments. They mean a lot to me, and I like how well you seem to understand my meanings.
Take care. I'll need to check your work. I don't really read much here, and I probably should. Thanks again

The plight (no, situation) of the single parent. A situation of cohesion rather thn desperation which I found warming. Many two parent families do not achieve that.

What a tender and honest piece, Jabberwocky. Abandonment has narrowed the speaker’s world, but fatherhood has also filled it with purpose, love, and responsibility. The title captures that mixture of loss and gratitude perfectly. Beautifully done, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Thank you so much for your kind comment. My greatest satisfaction in life is how safe from damage my children are. They're awesome. Yes, more than half full. 😁
