Nothing original can exist in a circle of light,
Even Time is repeated as past and present, day and night,
Every moving wave is summoned by the previous wake,
Illumined thoughts and ideas come from another authors take.
A million eggs open to reveal a million new hatchlings,
All are the same and nothing created has different wings,
Even if we grant that siblings differ in their appearance,
And old unimaginative genes dictate the circumstance.
The poems and songs of the spiritual mind step very near,
To the universe of original thought but fail to hear,
The cries of past writers who trespassed that same open sky,
And take flawed praise for the newness of their copied reply.
What can we say is original in the vast open sea,
But a constant Ferris wheel of repetitive misery.

O sing unto the Lord a new song!
Hallelujah amigo Hallelujah. Thanks for commenting
Ecclesiastes 1:9 There is nothing new under the sun... comes to mind with this poem David. Well written and makes one wonder what one's purpose is if there is nothing new that one can contribute. Well done my friend.
Yes I was thinking of Nothing new under the Sun.Ones purpose is a good question. Thanks for your insight amigo
My pleasure
What a compelling poem, David! We all create from inherited language, experience, and influence, yet I wonder whether originality might still emerge through the singular way each person combines them. The closing Ferris wheel leaves that question circling long after the poem ends. Excellent work, my friend! 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
Thank you for your insight amigo.Much apprecisted
We are often a blend of the original and the copied just to make our daily bread, an earned pass to participate and exist. I had a friend once that told me in my face that it wasn't my family and associations that mattered to them but me for myself. Such a good friend they were!
Indeed a friend like that is hard to find.Thank you commenting compadre.Always appreciated
Most welcome compadre 👍🏻🕊️
