MIRRORED GAZE

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

Did I leave myself
Within reflection
Of your mirrored eyes
To view ?
The poet with
A staggered step
Saddened pools
In eyes of blue.

A ragged road
Without a sign
Leading nowhere
Scorching tears cried
Blistered feet
Each a crime
The pain within
Numbed by wine.

I hear the echo
Still see my face
Deep within
That glassy haze
A thousand sins
A million lies
My reflection trapped
In your mirrored eyes.

Eyes the mirror to the soul. In this poem the reflection is of another. Nicely written Norman

Reflective echo in the mirrored eyes .A fascinating form of synesthesia !

That's us two, that second verse, attempting to walk to town, as no buses, and it being enough to turn us to the bottle! lol.

What a haunting poem, Norman! The speaker seems unable to recover himself directly, so he searches for the person he once was within someone elseโ€™s remembered gaze. The road, the wine, and the accumulated remorse deepen that sense of an identity lost yet still painfully preserved. Excellent work, my friend! ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›

What a fearful thing it could be and equally wonderful to lose oneself inside another person's perception of them. Sorrow and judgement are probably the most challenging of terrains to be caught in such a gaze. I have been personally caught without escape in such a gaze and understand it in some way.
