Trees

Fränz Müller

Trees don’t scream

when we chop them down

or even make a sound;

they don’t even

make a fuss

when we poison ancient ground.

But rest assured

they will laugh last

when the planet falls apart;

they’ll shade our bones

and ignore our moans

and wait for a brand new start.
