cost of love

arqios

first the shadow

quick and darkening the world

A looming doom

then the sonic boom

punches and words

Strikes and boards

the only batteries dreamed off

for toys and torches

you stayed still

          Expectant

But torture arrives

instead of nurture

learning early the cost of love

The play on words with batteries is most clever. Darkness and the light of torches plays off dualism as does nurture and torture another word play against torch. Nicely done Cryptic. You know I love word play.

My friend, this hit me hard. The collision of childhood innocence and violence is brutal...showing how betrayal at such an early age can distort the very meaning of affection. Painful, powerful, and deeply moving work, Rik. πŸŒΉπŸ–€πŸ™πŸ•―οΈπŸ¦β€β¬›
