Learning to trust is the hardest thing I could ever do in my life.

My armor is heavy, of iron and doubt,

A fortress I built just to keep the world out.

To lower the drawbridge, to open the door—

It’s the hardest damn thing I have tried to explore.

I tremble to hand you the keys to my heart,

Where every old shadow is waiting to start.

But the fear in my chest won't dictate how I live;

There is so much of me that I'm willing to give.

So I’ll walk down this path at a fragile, slow pace,

Learning to look at the world face to face.

One step in the dark, then another ahead,

Trading the heavy stone weight of my dread.

Because you are my anchor, my light, and my shore,

The one friend I lean on, and trust all the more.

Though shaking, I’m learning to soften the plea:

Here is my soul.

I trust you with me.
