Fresh

peto

Freshly cut battle scars merely sharpen her numb

Any comfort once sought couldn't spare her a crumb

Puncturing for release skin drawn tight as a drum

Closing all roads that lead to her heart

A statistic they say suffering from self abuse

Not that she'd ever use such a flimsy excuse

Many moons have now passed since her demons let loose

Ripped up any road circling her heart

Innocence taken from her when still very young

As the winds of change howled and the pendulum swung

Got her first taste of blood biting down on her tongue

Shredding every string tied to her heart

Chilling loneliness haunting a bottomless soul

Suffocating attempts at regaining control

Her mind wanders down old memory lane for a stroll

Ever further away from her heart

She's a fighter and stands proud at last in a place

Where her undeserved shame finally runs out of space

I'll be first off the mark in the ultimate race

For a chance to get close to her heart

I loved the rhyme scheme that is unusual but growing more common. The message was touching and the meter was good. Nicely done my friend a fave

A powerful write. Your poem centers on self-harm, psychological struggles, and the impact of past abuse. You highlight the protagonist's fight against her demons and the journey toward reclaiming her identity and emotional health.

            Hi peto,

There's a lot to unpack in this piece and it's expertly crafted by the way. Childhood abuse can certainly ruin a person. I hope the narrator finds a way to her heart.

Top notch poetry - Syd 🍄
