DOUBLING POEMS
Poems in a thousand languages,
words taking on their own life,
verses that fly differently in the end.
Words born to be multiplied,
verses that double their power in the world,
in the hope that they fill with life and travel.
Poems born to be translated,
to follow their own paths,
each translation a poem,
distinct, with lives of their own,
a thousand lifted words
through the worlds
to bring forth
meanings
for everyone,
different.

Poemas en mil idiomas,
palabras que toman su vida,
versos que vuelan distintos al final.
Palabras nacidas para ser multiplicadas,
versos que redoblan su poder en el mundo,
en la ilusión de que se llenen de vida y viajen.
Poemas nacidos para ser traducidos,
para que tomen sus caminos,
cada traducción un poema,
distintos, vidas propias,
mil palabras elevadas
por los mundos
para procrear
significados
para todos,
distintos.

What a wonderful point of view and so true. I would take it further and say it is a new poem for everyone that reads it for their own experience shapes its translation. Nicely written and the idea itself gets a fave
You reminded me of a poem of mine titled THE BEST POEM, which reflects on how each person’s life is the greatest poem in existence. And indeed, when my poems take flight and reach a reader who opens them, that reader makes them brand new—because every single one of us brings a unique interpretation that can never be replicated.
This truth becomes especially clear when I translate using AI and struggle to decide on the single best version: the transformative power of words is a fascinating phenomenon, where the exact same word can shift in meaning depending on how it’s read.

You are most welcome and after I responded it occurred to me that every time I read a poem it is different and I get new meaning so every time a poem is read it is new.
