Yankee Doodle came to town
And he was so lonely
Annie’s mother was a car
And she was just a phony
Yankee Doodle came to town
And he was so lonely
The shapeshifter proposed to him
“Cause ditch the patrimony!”
Annie January didn’t care
That he was so lonely
She just wanted to steal the files
Of proof hippos were cronies
The hippos all were playing dead
By the lake of Lubbock solely
To make the green guys look untrained
Who worked for Mr. Bony
To make the public fail to trust
The ones who worked for Bony
Like he neglected hippo’s care
And all nature’s places slowly
Cause if he couldn’t care for them
If he couldn’t care for what’s homely
He couldn’t play the other cards
Of running the municipal deftly

- Comment from author about the poem: This piece is a surreal, playful poem built on the classic "Yankee Doodle" song structure. It blends elements from my original childhood fantasy world with a character inspired by "The Boys" (Annie January) to tell a bizarre story of local municipal schemes, staged hippo drama, and breaking tradition.
