for the birds

Tristan Robert Lange

a double-crested
cormorant sits—
stately—
perched upon

galvanized
steel,

sitting there,
down the way
at the penis tip
of a cross-shaped

pier

beyond a rusty,
weathered gate
barring human entry.

a stark reminder
of God’s natural position:

idols are for the birds.

And why is religion so against sex? Did not god say be fruitful? So many sexual images buried in this poem the pier, the gate and then the introduction of the cross on the pier canceling it, the gate rusted and barring entry. I heard Freud mumble in his grave. Oh but that is but a hole as well. But what sums it up well is the final line idols are for the birds. A fave my friend this one was tight.

    • Tristan Robert Lange

Exactly, my friend! The sacred and sexual are tangled together here quite deliberately. Religion has spent centuries trying to fence off what creation made perfectly natural...while the cormorant sits beyond it all, molting and entirely unbothered. 🀘🀣 Thank you for the fave! πŸ¦β€β¬›β›ͺπŸš§πŸ™

        My pleasure Tristan

so very well put my friend

        • Tristan Robert Lange

Thank you kindly, Norman! So glad this one connected...much appreciated, my friend. πŸ¦β€β¬›β›ͺπŸš§πŸ™

            It certainly did

The birds never stop rummaging inside us ...

            • Tristan Robert Lange

Indeed, Lorenz! Perhaps that restless kinship is precisely why this fellow felt prophetic to me. Much appreciated! πŸ¦β€β¬›β›ͺπŸš§πŸ™

              Popeye into bird-watching?! lol.

Orchi, spinach gives him strength, Olive Oyl gives him grief, and apparently Ocean Grove, NJ gives him hobbies! Let's be honest, he's all over the damn place! Why? Tune into WCAT to find out, of course! πŸ¦β€β¬›β›ͺπŸš§πŸ™

I prefer the Old Testament with it's Oscar Winning Special Effects. Better than the New Testament.
That's got nothing to do with the Poem. Just thought I'd mention it.
Although a very Cryptic and Clever Write.

Kevin, I’ll happily accept the unsolicited biblical cinema review! πŸ˜‚ Personally, I think Revelation sweeps the visual-effects categories. Heavy Metal Scripture on acid, as it were. 🀘🀣 Anywho, I’m glad you enjoyed the poem, my friend! πŸ¦β€β¬›β›ͺπŸš§πŸ™

                    Oh, hell, I cannot resist:

                    HAIL CORMORANT! πŸ¦β€β¬›πŸ€˜
Prof(ane/ound)? revealer of human stupidity...nature’s black-robed prophet, molting without shame, perched at the tip of a sanctified dickhead while humanity rusts behind its own fucking gate. (was this in my outside voice? 🀣).
