Child Abuse

Michael A. McGuire

Weeping

Cold

Hungry

Confused

Scared

Battered

and bruised,

an abused child gently raises his head up to Heaven and begins his tender prayer to God:

God, can you hear me? This is Billy and I don't know what to do. Daddy keeps hitting me. I want him to stop and that's why I'm kindly asking you.

Please don't let him hurt me anymore. I've been a good boy. Honest, you must believe that I'm telling you the truth! So why does he always bloody my face and kick me in the belly with his boots?

I promise I'll go to church every Sunday! I'll even give You everything I got!

I only want him to love me; so please dear Lord, would You please make him stop?
