Tin Cans and a String

Once a year I miss you so

If I had two tin cans with a rope

  I’d stretch it across the earth

  And tell you so

  Let you know what has changed over the years

Your smile warmed all the rooms

  From here to there with the doggie zooms

  The light shown from your body, your smile, your eyes

  Never to depart from your prize

  I’d stretch it to eternity

  and talk to you with sincerity

  tell you how special you made me feel

  something time cannot steal while I heal

  And before your body gave way to dust

  Your fingerprint, you left it on us

  We all loved you so much

  I’d tell you that we learned from your light

  And we’ll all honor you, and keep up the fight
