American Executor: Ronald Reagan

Matthew R. Callies

A nation bruised by years of doubt and strain,

Awaits a voice to lift the public view;

The office calls amid a changing age’s refrain,

Where markets shift and old beliefs renew.

No crown commands, no ancient right is due,

Yet millions place their confidence and hand—

He guides the nation with a hopeful hand.

The executive grows through public trust,

A promise carried farther than the land;

The power held must serve because it must—

He guides the nation with a hopeful hand.

The world beyond the shores demands his sight,

As rivals test the balance of the day;

The defense of freedom shapes the nation’s might,

While allies seek a steadier course to weigh.

He speaks of peace, yet prepares against the fray,

And builds alliances across the span—

He guides the nation with a hopeful hand.

The burdens of the Cold War fill the air,

The conflicts of the age remain unplanned;

Yet through uncertainty, he answers there—

He guides the nation with a hopeful hand.

At home, the government begins to change,

The tax code, courts, and markets feel his voice;

A different vision seeks a broader range,

A different path presented as the choice.

The people weigh the future they endorse,

And choose a course that reshapes the nation’s brand—

He guides the nation with a hopeful hand.

The office gains a stronger public role,

Where message, image, and conviction stand;

A presidency shaped around a goal—

He guides the nation with a hopeful hand.

The economy, the deficit, the years ahead,

Bring questions that no leader can dismiss;

The promises of growth must still be spread,

While critics challenge every claim and wish.

The nation searches for a balance in this—

Between ambition and what times demand—

He guides the nation with a hopeful hand.

And though his choices draw both praise and ire,

His imprint reaches far across the land;

A changing era shaped by new desire—

He guides the nation with a hopeful hand.

So stands the fortieth steward of the state,

A figure who transformed the office’s frame;

He entered when the nation faced a weight,

And left behind a newly fashioned name.

The presidency would not remain the same,

For communication became command—

He guides the nation with a hopeful hand.

And those who follow walk the path he made,

Where leadership is measured by demand,

And public vision becomes the office’s trade—

He guides the nation with a hopeful hand.

Envoi:

O voice that called a weary age to rise,

You shaped the office with a brighter brand;

Through changing times beneath uncertain skies,

You left your mark upon the nation’s span—

He guides the nation with a hopeful hand.
