Night comes, and my body remembers what my mind tries to bury.
The darkness becomes a doorway I never asked to open.
I close my eyes and pray I won’t wake trapped inside myself.
But nightmares drag me back to places I fought so hard to leave.
And sleep stops feeling like rest—it becomes another fucking threat.
I wake unable to move, screaming somewhere beneath my skin.
Something sits on my chest, and terror fills every inch of me.
I know I’m awake, but my body refuses to believe I’m safe.
I beg my limbs to move, beg the room to become real again.
And when it finally releases me, I’m too afraid to close my eyes.
God, I just want one night where I don’t have to be brave.
I want to fall asleep beside someone who makes the dark feel harmless.
Someone whose breathing reminds my nervous system that I’m here, not there.
I want arms around me when the nightmares come crawling back.
I want to sleep without fear—and wake up knowing I was never alone.
