This dark, burning sky,
firing lightning,
falls upon me like rain
We hear and feel all those sounds of living,
the wrong and the right notes,
those trembling,
cracking, shattering glass souls
Under the arching trees,
we cannot see the sun’s rays in true colors
through the glass shards
We take life one piece at a time,
clearing a day away from ourselves
This thickening air crushes against
our faces, welling our eyes
with anxiety
This polluted air
squeezes inside our lungs,
making it hard to breathe
without gasping,
and that falling dust of life
clings everywhere
Here, behind God’s back,
where it´s cold, windy,
deadly quiet,
and so mercilessly desolate,
where everything has been forgotten,
in the middle of nothing,
a place no one can find,
and once you end up there,
you don’t want to be found.
There, where we are fractured
shadows on the ground,
broken figures in people´s eyes,
unspoken curses,
evil talk behind backs
We look from under our brows
as we bow to images of ourselves,
shedding those
emotionless, hardened tears
that plow
and carve into our faces
Now shout once with me,
so that at least our voices may meet,
even if we cannot see each other,
raise your hand,
that for a moment we may touch
the same thickening air
So at least now, for once, we could feel
the strangers we are to each other.
All this pretending
to be so publicly beautiful
that we just don´t know
how to enjoy it
We cry the emotionless, glassy tears of our mind,
which, by falsely reflecting,
makes us truly believe in ourselves
Our pale, expressionless faces
with blood-red lips
make reality disappear
As if looking into a mirror for a moment
where reality turns against the viewer
where this delusional moment
melts into the reverse side of light
creating, for a moment, an illusion that feels real
making us believe even
in our distorted selves
but what if we heard
our speech reflected
from the mirror, turned towards us
would you still
believe what you see
based on what you hear?
