From years of service to the nation’s call,
He takes the chair where global tensions cease;
A seasoned hand now guides the state through all,
Seeking the promise of a lasting peace.
The Cold War’s shadow fades, its grip released,
Yet new uncertainties arise across the land—
He leads the nation with a careful hand.
No crown commands, no throne defines his role,
But duty shaped by decades’ witness stands;
The world now turns beneath his steady soul—
He leads the nation with a careful hand.
The Soviet Union’s long division ends,
The walls that marked an era fall away;
Old rivals shift, and former foes become friends,
As history turns toward a different day.
He guides the change with patience on the way,
Avoiding triumph’s excess or grand demand—
He leads the nation with a careful hand.
The nations of the world seek new design,
As freedom spreads across the eastern strand;
The balance shifts beneath a changing line—
He leads the nation with a careful hand.
Yet peace abroad does not remove the test,
For threats emerge where older powers fade;
Iraq’s invasion challenges the rest,
And coalition forces must be arrayed.
With allies gathered, action is displayed,
A measured course rather than lone command—
He leads the nation with a careful hand.
The Gulf War proves the reach of American might,
Yet restraint defines the victory planned;
The conflict ends without prolonged fight—
He leads the nation with a careful hand.
At home, the economy begins to strain,
And promises confront political cost;
The public weighs the burden and the gain,
As confidence and optimism are lost.
The choices made are measured by what’s crossed,
Between conviction and the voters’ demand—
He leads the nation with a careful hand.
A single term completes his service here,
Though years of preparation shaped his stand;
The office moves beyond his brief career—
He leads the nation with a careful hand.
So stands the forty-first who bore the seal,
A diplomat, a soldier, and a guide;
He governed through a world made new and real,
Where old divisions weakened and subsided.
The presidency by experience was fortified,
A quieter strength beneath command—
He leads the nation with a careful hand.
And though the judgment of his age may shift,
His place remains within the nation’s span,
A steward of transition and of drift—
He leads the nation with a careful hand.
Envoi:
O keeper of a world in changing sand,
You held the office with a careful hand;
Through peace and conflict, loss and hope you planned,
A bridge between the old and newer land—
He leads the nation with a careful hand.
