2 lines

b.j.ebbert

at the same time

every month

i would curl into a ball

and cry;

unable to provide myself comfort.

one line.

my body has failed me again,

the doctors are right.

why is it so much easier for everyone else?

why won’t my body do what it is meant to?

what did I do to deserve this?

one line.

tears continue to fall,

my heart feels heavy

my womb is empty.

  • Comment from author about the poem: For 3 years I struggled with infertility, it was the hardest and most depressing part of my life. Out of everything I could be— the one thing I truly wanted seemed so out of reach.
