The long Road Home

notapoet

Isn’t it funny how quickly the hours pass,

especially when you’re living on borrowed time?

I’ve been burning the candle at both ends

and put myself between a rock and a hard place.

Now I must bite the bullet

and try to weather the storm.

I’ve been chasing my tail, and now

I’m lost in the woods of confusion,

unable to see the forest for the trees.

I’m a shadow of my former self,

with my tail between my legs—

running on empty

and brought to my knees.

But it is time to face the music,

swallow my pride,

and hold on

until the storm at last has passed.

Now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel;

every cloud, I’ve found,

has a silver lining.

I’ll rise from the ashes

with a new lease on life,

turn over a new leaf,

and stand on firmer ground.

Back on my feet and on the right track,

the world is my oyster;

the best is yet to come.

I’ve found my footing,

I’m finding my way,

and at long last—

I’m finally coming home.

    I love idioms and this poem is made completely of them. Nicely done
