The command to Joshua
was clear as the parted Jordan:
Annihilate them all,
or they will contaminate your faith.
Some got the land and ignored the decree—
enticed by the pleasures of foreign nyash
and the tastes of the grapes and wine.
There were those that dithered in comfort,
asking why fight, when YHWH had already given?
They chose to subjugate, to settle down,
sparing what was marked for destruction.
Letting comfort take hold, there they remained,
Called, favoured, prideful, their faith eroded.
Then Jesus came
And went to that wooden Cross on a hill—
pouring out His life, His blood, His work
so you and I could find God
[as if He ever was lost];
Find mercy and reconciliation,
Become heirs to the promise too.
He died for you, for them, for me.
He died for all of us,
no matter our station, breed, or creed.
He died for the Jebusites, too.
So don’t hide behind an old covenant
to justify atrocities today.
Jesus died for us all—
the Jebusites were in that number, too.
