American Executor: George W. Bush

Matthew R. Callies

A nation turns its gaze toward Texas plains,

A contested path that leads him to the chair;

He takes the office as the century wanes,

With questions of legitimacy in the air.

Yet soon the world will change beyond compare,

And history calls him to a darker strand—

He leads the nation with a resolute hand.

No crown commands, no ancient right is claimed,

But crisis tests the office that he bears;

A presidency forever will be named

By choices made beneath extraordinary cares—

He leads the nation with a resolute hand.

The morning skies become a scene of grief,

As towers fall and a nation stands in shock;

The executive responds with firm belief,

And turns the course of power toward a new clock.

Security becomes the nation’s lock,

As war and vigilance reshape the land—

He leads the nation with a resolute hand.

The military moves beyond the shore,

Afghanistan becomes the opening front;

The world confronts a different kind of war,

Where enemies are hidden, dispersed, and blunt—

He leads the nation with a resolute hand.

The years that follow bring a greater test,

As Iraq becomes a defining choice;

The claims of danger drive the nation’s quest,

While critics question every public voice.

The costs of conflict echo through the noise,

And history weighs the judgment of his stand—

He leads the nation with a resolute hand.

The presidency expands its wartime role,

As surveillance, security, and debate

Challenge the balance between liberty and control,

And test the limits of executive weight—

He leads the nation with a resolute hand.

At home, his administration seeks its course,

With tax policy and domestic goals in view;

Yet hurricanes reveal the government’s force,

And public confidence is tested through.

The office faces judgments old and new,

As every action meets the nation’s demand—

He leads the nation with a resolute hand.

The economy later enters troubled years,

And financial storms cross the national stage;

The final chapter closes amid fears,

With uncertainty defining the age—

He leads the nation with a resolute hand.

So stands the forty-third to bear the seal,

A president defined by crisis and war;

His choices mark the era he made real,

And shape debates that continue evermore.

The executive reaches a broader shore,

Where emergency expands the leader’s span—

He leads the nation with a resolute hand.

And history will measure what was done,

The burdens carried and the battles planned;

A presidency shaped beneath the sun—

He leads the nation with a resolute hand.

Envoi:

O guardian of a nation tested and tried,

You held the office with a resolute hand;

Through conflict’s fire and changing tide,

You marked an age across the land—

He leads the nation with a resolute hand.
