Something in the Air

William Hromada

Something in the air tonight — a charge you can’t name, like the moment before a match strikes, when the whole room leans in.
The windows are open. The curtains breathe. Somewhere a dog barks twice and stops, as if it heard the same thing you did.
You stand there holding nothing, and the nothing holds you back.
