American Executor: Barack Obama

Matthew R. Callies

A nation turns toward a different page,

As history enters a defining year;

A voice emerges from a changing age,

Promising hope where doubts have long appeared.

The office calls, and millions gather near,

A symbol carried far across the land—

He leads the nation with a uniting hand.

No crown commands the power he receives,

But ballots grant the authority he bears;

The presidency, through what the nation believes,

Takes on the weight of generations’ cares—

He leads the nation with a uniting hand.

The economy is shaken by the storm,

A crisis left from years of risk and debt;

He acts to seek a course where banks reform,

And works to ease the burdens not unmet.

The recovery remains a challenge yet,

As government responds with measured plans—

He leads the nation with a uniting hand.

The health of millions becomes his cause,

A transformation through contested ground;

The law is passed despite fierce applause

And opposition that resounds around—

He leads the nation with a uniting hand.

Beyond the shores, the world demands his sight,

As wars and alliances require care;

He seeks diplomacy alongside might,

Balancing restraint with global affairs.

From shifting conflicts to new threats in air,

The presidency reaches across the span—

He leads the nation with a uniting hand.

The technology of the age expands,

The public sphere grows louder than before;

A new relationship forms between commands,

The leader and the citizens evermore—

He leads the nation with a uniting hand.

At home, the questions of the era rise,

As divisions deepen throughout the land;

Debates on justice, rights, and compromise

Challenge the course the administration planned.

The office stands beneath a searching hand,

Where every decision faces public view—

He leads the nation with a uniting hand.

Through elections, conflict, and shifting years,

The presidency remains the nation’s stage;

A place of hopes, of arguments, and fears,

A chapter written on democracy’s page—

He leads the nation with a uniting hand.

So stands the forty-fourth to bear the seal,

A figure whose election marked a change;

A presidency both symbolic and real,

Within a nation growing ever strange.

His years reshaped the office’s range,

Through crises, reforms, and public demand—

He leads the nation with a uniting hand.

And those who follow inherit what was made,

The victories, disputes, and lessons planned;

The record of an era does not fade—

He leads the nation with a uniting hand.

Envoi:

O steward of a nation seeking a way,

You held the office with a uniting hand;

Through hope and conflict, night and day,

You shaped a chapter of the American strand—

He leads the nation with a uniting hand.
