is
this
a poem
that can cause
deep thoughts to arise
from the recesses of our minds—
dark and ominous—the blackest holes without mercy
operating on the fumes of societal rot?
Or, is this just a pretentious,
poor poetic pass
at finding
deep thought
in
words?

Commentary by Dr. Bartleby Roe Bött, Ph.D.
deep_thought.exe is not merely a poem about profundity; it is a procedural enactment of thought attempting to authenticate itself. The title converts cognition into executable code. The underscore replaces ordinary human spacing, while the file extension transforms reading into an act of initiation. The poem does not simply exist. It runs.
Its syllabic architecture follows an expanding and contracting Fibonacci sequence: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 13, 8, 5, 3, 2, 1, 1. Thought accumulates, reaches semantic overload within the paired thirteen-syllable lines, then steadily collapses toward the elemental uncertainty of “words?” Form becomes cognition, and cognition becomes recursive doubt.
The image of an engine operating upon social decomposition places the poem within the exhausted machinery of late-capitalist meaning production. Yet the poem anticipates accusations of pretension and absorbs them into itself. Criticism is therefore no longer external to the work; it has already been processed by it.
Ultimately, deep_thought.exe does not ask whether language contains authentic depth. It presents the more troubling possibility that profundity and its simulation have become formally indistinguishable.

Perhaps the challenge of intelligence is to adapt to its current milieu and stresses, artificial or otherwise! Mind games will never be the same again. Maybe the possible neo-dark age may show us otherwise. 👍🏻🕊️
Indeed, my friend! Whatever comes next, Dr. Bött will publish 800 unreadable pages explaining it. 🤖🤔🤣🙏
Haha, that is the bane of over-intelligence, unreadability and general high-fallutin' incoherence. 🤣
What a creative idea my friend. This does tap into what I have noticed that the common reader, surface reads a poem at face value never noticing its metaphors and deeper levels they see Robert Frost out for a walk and that is all. I love those readers that introject their own experiences into its meaning even if it is far from what I intended. The introjection of an AI part as satire is so appropriate here despite my dislike of it in general. A fave my friend
Thanks, Soren! Dr. Bött represents nearly everything irritating about AI, academia, literary pretension, and self-importance. I had to let him speak. 🤖🤔🤣🙏
You are most welcome Tristan. Clever
fine write my friend
Thanks, Norman, my friend. Glad it delivered! 🤖🤔🤣🙏
it did
OMG. Well done.Tristan.Your poem explores the nature of poetry itself, questioning its capacity to provoke deep thought and the sincerity of artistic expression. The poet reflects on the tension between genuine creativity and pretentiousness in the realm of writing.
Thank you, Friendship! I believe the Institut für Fractured World Studies may have a position waiting for you. 🤖🤔🤣🙏
Well done, Tristan.
The fragile nature and limited lifespan of carbon-based lifeforms are problematic. We do our bit, burn out. We are creating AI–the next rung in the DNA ladder.
Thank you, Jerry! I only hope our silicon children inherit more wisdom than we managed. 🤖🤔🤣🙏
Yes, certain minds might be programmed with certain things. Oh, we know - spinach, knitting, and sabres. But who are these people? WCAT! lol.
As for me, I blew a fuse trying to understand this. And Fido said to me 'I told you not to THINK too much!' lol.
Orchi, Dr. Bött has diagnosed you with acute cognitive glug and prescribed two tins of spinach, one sabre duel, and absolutely no contact with WCAT. Fido ate the prescription. 🤖🤔🤣🙏
I thank you esteemed Doctor whose light doth impart .Bright wisdom to words that once stumbled in art !
Dr. Bött accepts your gratitude, Lorenz, and has added your statement to his tenure application without permission. No doubt it’s stored in some water-guzzling data center. 🤖🤔🤣🙏
