People—well, men—
Have this knack for
Overestimating their own
Enterprise in religion!
By God!—women raised them;
Evangelism—women embody.
People ought to know,
Against all delusions,
Life is meant to be lived.
Money is meant to be given.
Every soul is worthy of
Redemption now!

- Comment from author about the poem: An acrostic Scorched Sunday poem. Part of my Scorched Strays collection. This poem draws inspiration from a nineteenth-century woman whose faith carried a distinctly Methodist doctrine beyond denominational boundaries. It considers the women who embodied evangelism, the men who claimed its enterprise, and the redemption that belongs to every soul.
