I saw the dissonance that day
I listened to what she had to say
I saw the darkness on her face
She didn’t sing but it was ok
The man that changed my life
Forever when I was seventeen
Is the one whom I greatly admired
He was a disciple of Bruce Lee
I spoke to him after years apart
And that man was brokenhearted
And the monsters just rubbed salt on his wound
That his girlfriend no longer wanted him
He taunted him to face
“What are you trying to prove?!”
“I’m just sad and broken is all, there’s nothing I’m trying to prove!”
His coworker threatened him
He said “If you hit me then I will beat you up!”
“Listen, man, I have brothers! With only one arm I can beat you up!”
He gave me the validation I needed
“You’re a guy who thinks at a high-level.”
He remembered back when I was like that
Made a genius by the devil
We had deep philosophical conversations
“...because that’s my limitation!”
He was wrong but I backed him up that day
“This is how I repay you for your attention!”
I told my mom that I had changed
She asked “Why? Did it burn your cock off?”
For the first time she respected me
“I’m sorry I didn’t give you what you need…”
“I want a girlfriend so badly…”
“Aww…” she said with empathy
