The Road of Life

Pam Maxwell Alps

My heart is starved and love is lost
The aching emptiness within corrupts my soul

With vengeance bold.

Hear my disillusioned wail,

I can hurt too, my love.

I walk. And walk more
Blinded by the curtain of deceit.

Suddenly! Noise has left his weary din

Behind me.

Gone are the grey walls and blasts of horns,

Gone are the coarse voices ,bellowing like bulls forlorn.

Has Oberon grasped my hand and led me to the promised land?

In the west the mountain range

Is dazzled by the sun.

On either side, blithe, snow white lambs

Are frolicking, having fun.

Their innocence is beautiful

As the dove upon the lime.

Nature’s wonders all around to me are so sublime.

In the trees, I do perceive sweet melodies,

Such ecstasy from tiny tongues.

This is my grove of Bliss

My heaven upon the Earth,

Where ripping streams, play music upon the crystal stones,

And gush their  merry paths through woods

With birds and rabbits, breeze and sun.

True, beauteous friends of all and one.

Though pain had pledged his misused burden

Upon my heavy heart,

Here I feel the flame inside

Rekindle my fresh start.

Days curtain closes slowly

While I had drawn a blind

Foolishly confused from lies

Across my stinging mind.

But now as night’s veil darkens

I know that I have found

My silver lining , shining bright,

For, I have passed my first sharp twist

Along the road of life.

There is a bright sense of hope in this poem that speaks in a classic Grecian style bringing to mind the fields of Elysian. Nicely written
