"Dinner Invitation"

if I at this keyboard
proffer
thoughts of how I feel
among the dirt paths
within valleys green
reduce opportunities
infer profanities
slimming hopes
dulcet rhythms
increasing mirth
whence shall arise
understanding
that only I shall know
offer me
on your keyboard
thoughts of how you feel

How poetically put my friend. How does anyone know the thoughts of another without comment made by them. So empty poems read without response. As a species we rely on communication and one way leaves us hanging with no feedback we know not how to respond. I write for myself and as therapy but it is rewarding knowing that I am not alone and that others share the same feelings and thoughts. A lovely write my friend and one well needed in that so small a percentage of those that read respond. Look at the numbers of reads you have and compare them to the number of comments. I have read every poem posted for the last two years on this site and it is almost exclusively the same people that respond. I may soon restrict myself to responding only to those that respond to mine.

And to think that in the olden days it was tough to get such technology for such communication to happen and now we have so much and yet suffer with lesser feedback and back-and-forth. We are not alone but it sure feels that way. Oh dear.

Indeed we are and more than then

You have put this point so elegantly, the invitation is there for all my friend

Yes, your keyboard is open to suggestion and response.
Sadly the higher beings poets are only open to your response on their masterpieces.
        Glad I'm a peasent. lol

Either that, snobbish or couldn’t be stuffed. Thanks, Paul.

We offer our thoughts but get so many different opinions and interpretations- it’s amazing- only some grasp what was intended to be shared 🤔😱🤐

                  • arqios

Yes, so true! There is that. Somewhere, sometime ago, there was a study that even with the best attention the highest reception/retention rate in listening is about 80%...makes one wonder where the other 20% goes to!?

                    • NafisaSB

We see but do not observe and hear but don’t actually listen to what’s being said. That’s factual and so unfortunate

                        Agreed
