The first time I told you that I love you

Ofentsevictoriousthomas

The first time I told you

that i love you

You held your smile in your shirt pocket

like sunglasses too shy to be worn.

stayed in character like Elizabeth bennet

who gets love on the last scene.

It was the eve of your birthday

and you gave the moon a bed to stay.

We had tea and prayer to kill time,

Photos and songs to go back in time

The first time I told you

that I love you

you made me your best friend

Lent me your hand

Like a father finally proud

of his child who heard what fate said

just like Lukas when he was 7 years old.

we painted grief's apartment

Canceled his eviction note

and accepted him as the weird tenant.

The first time I told you

that I love you

You borrowed a page

from your silence

made your room a stage

and wall photos your audience.

you gave gratitude a seat

Played him a happy song

Like he didn't take too long

to come and visit..

The first time I told you

that i love you

You were reading a poem

You wish you had wrote

and I was writing a poem

I wished to read.

I didn't have to wonder

If you were there

This time the mirror was too clear.

and you looked just like me.

A most lovely poem that is reflective from beginning to end and has a twist at the end that makes it all the more delightful. Nicely done and a fave
