I witness Life and her failures.
I bandage her scraped knees and cuts,
and I wipe her tears.
I told her it’s okay,
and it’s just a moment.
I live in their fear.
I walk by Death
and understand his silent guilt.
The feeling he wishes to take back,
I soak up,
and I drain into the mind's sorrow.
While he sits in silence,
but yelling is heard
of people cursing his name
for the pain he spilled.
And I sit and listen with him,
as ears bleed and eyes dry.
And when I’m alone,
I look up to the moon,
because he’s the only one
who had a heart for the unseen.
And he viewed me as the sun
when his sun was set in the east.
And he gave me time,
for it felt like eternity.
But eventually, he left too,
and I was left with ink
and stacks of blank papers
needing to be used.
Till I sat for long enough,
and someone sat too.
And he had no name,
not one I knew.
But his presence was certain,
and its heart was gold,
with red ink looking at me
and blue lips, freezing
And I never understood
the word soulmate
until my soul fell for one
who spoke the words
I wished someone had even thought to say.
And he took my pen,
covered it in ink,
and wrote on the piece of paper I held—
things I wished someone, anyone,
had known about me.
I never knew I needed help
until I met a soul
just as broken as me.

- Comment from author about the poem: Haven't been writing for a while. Tonight everything was just a flow. How does the section with "red ink looking at me and blue lips freezing" sound- too cliché or honest?
