The heart that pleads

Narayan Gadagkar

Oh!, my dear, you hold me so near

Listen to me what I say, and be  clear.

I am a  tiny organ, just your fist size

Placed within the chest cage

Look at me beyond love and rage.

From  a cardiac crescent  my journey

as a biological pump  took headway

when you were just six weeks old

in the womb of your worthy mom

I keep pumping life fluid the blood

to  nourish your brain and entire body.

My valves and chambers work very hard

Millions of beats, gallons of blood

And carry it unflinchingly to each organ

To every   cell without distinction.

You know, I don’t rest for a fraction of second

If I do, you would land  in cremation ground.

I certainly pump and keep you alive

For that you need to take care of me as well

Eat what is good for me, not the yummy taste

Your tongue relishes that most

Keep away the deep-fried food and  alcohol

Don’t clog my arteries with the cholesterol.

No cigar and smoke to keep airways clean

Don’t chock the lungs that feed me oxygen.

Keep  away diabetes and hypertension

Don’t worry  and say no to  stress and strain

and keep tab on level of cortisol and adrenaline

Limit salt, sugar, and saturated fats well within.

once you notice my struggle and thumping pain

sooner without delay, go for preventive action.

If need be, take me to desk of a surgeon

Oust the clog in my  arteries with  stenting

If you care me, I too will care you for life-long

Let us live in harmony and  sing lively life song.
