The Faceless Stands at Dusk

Matthew R. Callies

The faceless man waits where the shadows bend,

He lingers silent in the forest deep,

The children vanish when they call their friend.

His arms reach wide, they never seem to end,

A promise made to those who dare not sleep—

The faceless man waits where the shadows bend.

No words he speaks, no mercy does he lend,

Yet still through branches, secret watch he keeps.

The children vanish when they call their friend.

The path grows darker, twisting without end,

The silence hums, the air itself will weep—

The faceless man waits where the shadows bend.

Some stories fade, but this one will not mend,

It coils forever in the minds it creeps.

The children vanish when they call their friend.

Beware the forest none can comprehend:

For shadows hold what no one dares to reap.

The faceless man waits where the shadows bend,

The children vanish when they call their friend.
