Hide your daughters
Hide them away
Hide them, hide them
For the wolves are out to play
Make sure their skirts cover their thighs
Make sure their hair is out of sight
Make sure they don’t walk down a street past a certain hour
Make sure they’re always kind, never sour
The wolves will lurk around the corners
You’d never suspect a father or brother
Because “boys will be boys”
And they “didn’t mean it”
They hurt you because they like you
No
They hurt you because they like it
What’s the worst that can happen to the dear little wolf?
Maybe an essay
What about the girl?
The one who got SA’ed
People ask, “what were you wearing?’
“Did you turn him away?”
Because that’s all that they think
It’s about what you did
To lure them in
Hide your daughters
Hide them away
Hide them, hide them
For the wolves are out to play
Now that’s her own blood on her coat
Her face shamed red
She has bruises in icky places, fingers branded on her skin
Silent she stays, the battle she cannot win
It will cling to her body, her mind
She’ll carry it with her for the rest of her life
Now there isn’t much she can do
Except make sure, the same thing doesn’t happen to her little Daisy Lu
Hide your daughter's
Hide them away
Hide them, hide them
For the wolves are out to play.

A poem that sets the tone with the image of wolves. It is a good one for wolves only follow their nature and it is up to the shepherd to guard the sheep. I as a father of two daughters did this by making sure that when they went out with a boy that the boy came in and talked to me first. I would tell him that I trusted him with my daughter and was holding him responsible for her care and safety and they were to be back by a certain time and I was sure he could be trusted with those things, and he was to bring her back and give her to my hand. Parents are responsible as you note in your poem to gather the sheep and if you can not be there every moment make sure someone else is. Nicely done
Thank you, always appreciate your comments. Though, it wasn't entirely what I was trying to portray. My goal was to show how ludicrous it is for women and girls to have to be fearful of everywhere they walk and always have to be conscious of how they are portrayed. And the living nightmare that is happening in our world. Parents shouldn't have to do all of that. The words saying hide them hide them, is a warning and the sadness of how women HAVE to hide and how if they don't, they'll get objectified. It shouldn't be like this. The words in the poem saying make sure their skirts go over their thighs and to hide their hair is a mock on today's society, it basically highlights the harmful mentality that women are somehow responsible for "luring" men in. Lastly, society often teaches girls and women that they must dress a certain way ("skirts cover their thighs") and blend in ("hair is out of sight") to prevent being targeted. How women are forced to constantly police their own bodies, clothing, and behavior ("never sour") just to exist safely.
