Burning Desire

Anthony Hanible

Deep in the mire

Past thorn and briar

Slept a fire

A sly supplier

Of burning desire

The night grew dire

The winds flew higher

Still dreamed the dreamer

Still climbed the climber

Through ash and ache

Through grief and wire

Through doubt's dark choir

And fear's cold liar

My soul rose higher

A flamewalker

A skywriter

Fueled by burning desire

Now stars inspire

Now horizons conspire

The heart's not tired

The heart's acquired

A truth far brighter

Those who survive the fire

Become the fire

Burning desire
