Strength of Mother

Lady C

She is the first to rise at cockcrow,
before the morning finds its voice,
preparing little uniforms,
packing dreams into school bags,
sending them into the world
while she quietly carries her own.

And as she goes about her day,
their voices linger—
in her head,
in her heart.
Their morning smiles are small treasures
she carries with her
as she wrestles with the demands of the day
and struggles to make ends meet.

Then evening comes.

They return from their different battles,
and before they can even put their bags down,
they have stories to tell.

“Mom, you won’t believe what happened today…”

And though her own day
has wrung every ounce of strength from her,
she listens.

She laughs at their victories,
raises her hand for their high fives,
and celebrates the little triumphs
that make their eyes shine.

She, too, has had her victories—
moments when she conquered something,
survived something,
held herself together
when no one was watching.

But she keeps listening.

When they speak of defeat,
she gathers their broken little moments
and gently reminds them:

You are strong.
You can try again.

Though she has known frustration too.
Though she has had days
when she wanted to sit down
and simply breathe.

She is torn between
their needs and her own—
between finishing her assignments
and answering another,
“Mom!”

Baby has one last meal before sleep.

And there it is again:

“Mom will feed me.”

A tiny sentence,
yet heavy enough
to rest upon her weary body.

They run.
They shout.
They jump.
They tumble through the house
like little storms of life.

“Careful!”
“Slow down!”
“Don’t hurt yourselves!”

She keeps watch,
as mothers do—
loving them loudly,
worrying quietly.

And then…

silence.

The beautiful silence
that comes only after
a house full of children
has finally surrendered to sleep.

There they lie—
scattered in every direction,
as though sleep itself
has arranged them without order.

She walks around them,
picking up what they left behind,
putting back what they scattered,
restoring the little world
they have undone.

And when everything is finally still,
she stands there
and looks at them.

Exhaustion sits heavily on her shoulders,
yet a smile slowly lights her face.

She is stressed—
yet blessed.

Exhausted—
yet somehow strengthened.

Empty—
yet overflowing.

She thinks of tomorrow:
another morning,
another battle,
another day of giving,
another day of loving.

For the wheel must turn again.

And she will rise again.

Because somewhere in the middle
of the noise,
the mess,
the sacrifice,
the unanswered needs,
the unfinished tasks,
and the countless demands—

there is a symphony.

Their laughter.

Their little voices.

Their footsteps.

Their “Mom!”

And somehow,
that beautiful symphony
gives her the strength
to begin again.

For she is a mother.

And sometimes,
the strength that keeps the whole house standing
is the strength
no one sees.
