A clean house and a dirty heart

applecherry

A clean house.

As I walked downstairs,

and enter the kitchen,

I gaze around the room.

The countertops are sparkling

free from crumbs,

the floor is empty,

nothing to trip on or over.

The cups organised,

the sink spotless,

and the dining table laid.

This is where I’m reminded that a clean home is not a good home.

A clean home,

is not a safe home,

this clean kitchen represents something else entirely,

the cleanliness of the kitchen replaces a scrubbed heart.

No words are said when this kitchen is cleaned,

no feeling is felt after this kitchen is clean,

a clean kitchen reminds me of all the unsaid and said things.

You can scrub your kitchen,

but your heart remains dirty.
