yielding to the halflight

“Yielding to the Half-Light”

The lantern oil gives out
before the letter is finished.
The last sentence trails off
into the grey margin

where the eye must guess the verb.

Let it stay unsaid.
The room is softer now that the flame
has drowned in its own well.
Outside, the snow begins its slow,

unhurried work,
covering the path to the pump
until the garden
looks as wide and empty as the sea.

    much enjoyed my friend

Cryptic your poems have always caught my attention for their quality as much in what is not said as what is. However the quality has improved over the years and now is, by my judgement, truly masterful and worthy of far greater distribution. This one is another marvelous poem, that for me that always sees more in metaphor than what is written, glows as it falls into shadows. What was said in that part unread? What lies in the unknown. Much like life itself that seems at times written there is too much unknown as our light goes out. We walk in a garden as wide and empty as the sea. Brilliant!

Thank you so much. True, that. Poetry is as much what is said and what is not. Most grateful to you. 🙏🏻🕊️

I like to think of your pieces as observational scene setting, if that's alright with you.
They work very well, and as the paint dries the picture is very complete for me.

          • arqios

More than apt, actually. What the reader brings to the observational scaffolding supplies the poem’s depth and reach. I’m quite chuffed by that! 👍🏻🕊️🙏🏻

A good Write. And the Snow can Wait for all I care.

Ah, arqios, perhaps the greatest luxury is being able to leave something unfinished without feeling obligated to return to it immediately. The world could use a little more of that patience. Though I suspect my to-do list would strongly disagree! 😂 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Ah, you and me both. But we can wish, and perhaps not necessarily on a star 🌟🙏🏻🕊️

It's a strange kind of beauty how the seasons change but can be very dark at times. I love the way you write I learned from you thank you for teaching me God bless you and your family always
