My Secret World of Pain

Michael A. McGuire

Gazing blankly out my window, a world of which I am no part. Searching for answers; praying for escape…wishing that my mind would burst and give in to my troubled heart!

It all seems too simple. Why can't I just play life's stupid games? Why must I make up my own rules and wonder through endless mazes, with the end always resulting in pain?

People have always told me, "you're much too intelligent to think the way you do."

If that's true, why must I be humiliated like an imbecile when I tell people how I really feel? Do you know? I haven’t got a clue.

Your world is very strange. I always find myself questioning your ways and norms.  Like when you say the main goal for your world is survival. How can you achieve it by killing off your own lifeforms?

You're just digging a hole and filling it up at the same time. You keep falling off a mountain that you know very well you'll never be able to climb!

At least in here, I'm safe. There may be pain but it's all mine.

So why don't you go away and leave me alone because you'll never ever set foot in my holy shrine!

From my birth, I have failed! Always drifting, like a man destined to walk alone.

Though the penalties for my crimes have been great and my scars are many and run deep, I'll continue to live my life the way I want to, until I finally die and forever sleep!

Dark and cynical this poem paints a picture of the world that is well deserved. If everyone has a bright and ignorant view of things is seeing them in their real form being a cynic? Nicely done

Wow, Michael. I've wrestled with some of these very same frustrations, particularly the expectation that we're supposed to think and behave according to everyone else's standards. And heaven forbid we admit we're struggling! Thank you for being so open about something deeply personal, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛
