Happy belated birthday, Delaney!
So sorry I missed the actual day, I'm scatterbrained
Not an excuse, but when I say I'll get better
It is not a simple wish: Not another candle blown out
Of now-forgotten goals, desires, admirations, etc.
Much rather, a promise of who I will become;
The fire, it grows – Evergreen through the snow
No, you don't care; I'm imperfect: this you know
Thanks for being there anyway, I'm grateful I can call you my friend
You and I both sing, it's how we met of course!
But poems to me mean more than the notes you and I can both hit
So, I wrote you this gift! and painted its wrapping, I hope you enjoy!
Feeling crazy for trying to do the most all of a sudden,
Think I'm just thankful you're willing to show up for me
When I feel like I'm at my worst
So, I am more than willing,
To show up for you, the best I can,
In celebration of your birth!
Love, Hallie <3
