Missing Home

Anthony Hanible

Rain on glass

Pain that lasts

Years move slow

Memories fast

Heart won't hide

Though miles divide

I chase the past

It slips

It glides

Creek and pine

Old porch signs

Home still lives

Between the lines

Mama's voice

A gentle choice

Calling my name

Through all the noise

Children's grins

Where love begins

I lose some days

But hope still wins

Far away

Through night and day

I count the roads

I count the gray

Room to room

There's quiet gloom

Without my roots

The flowers bloom

No

They bend

They ache

They pretend

They wait and pray

For roads to end

Home is more

Than wood and door

It's who you miss

It's who you're for

So I roam

Yet always know

No matter where

The winds may blow

No matter how

The rivers foam

My soul still rhymes

With missing home
