rebels

Elizabeth Ross 4

Why do they really write poetry?

Why do these rebels choose to speak what’s in their hearts?

Were they not taught that memory feeds sin,

and dreams fuel failure?

I want them silent,

showing no resistance.

I am the leader,

I am their head, heart, and teeth;

you must obey me.

I don't want another book on the shelves,

I want them watching me on TV.

Anyone who dares to write

will have to leave this place.

In my land, there are no thinkers or writers:

there are only followers.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Today, we live in a world where the wrong people govern us toward a disruptive future—a world where we become the enemies of our own freedom and opinion. I encourage you to shout and, above all, to write about the world in which we exist.

    A theme from 1984, Brave New World, From V for Vendeta. Nicely condensed and put in verse. Well done
