I do not wish to be someone’s reason to stay
if staying means they must hide their truth.
I would rather be a passing light
that leaves a little warmth behind
than a home built on beautiful lies.
I want to love without keeping count,
to listen without preparing my reply,
to hold someone’s sorrow without making it mine,
and to see the goodness in another soul
without needing them to see it in me.
Perhaps the purest thing I can become
is someone who leaves no wound behind,
who speaks with kindness even when hurt,
who gives without turning love into a debt,
and who remains gentle without pretending
that the world has always been kind.
