Redamancy

rrodriguez

Redamancy—

the gravity of one heart pulling toward another,

calling for steadfastness not out of duty,

but out of devotion.

It is love returned with equal force, even in suffering,

even in the ache of a covenant interrupted,

only because mortality calls one home,

when the circle comes to its end—

“until death do us part.”

One heart returning the love of another,

year after year,

until mortality brings the earthly journey to its close.

It carries the voice of someone

who has stood beside grief, beside devotion,

beside the holy endurance of love.

It understands that love has a shape,

a journey… and a completion.

It is living with the knowledge

that the last chapter will one day arrive,

that the circle will close in its appointed time—

yet knowing that love has been returned

through all the years.

A love mirrored, sustained,

and lived into its fullness.

The circle will close—

not by abandonment,

but by faithfulness.

Thank you! I am a chaplain, and I encounter death regularly. I see the fragility of life, the pain of separation, and the profound grief that follows the loss of someone we love. But I also witness something equally powerful: the enduring presence of love, the devotion shared through the years, and the beautiful ways in which two lives become intertwined.

These experiences have taught me that love is not measured merely by the length of time we have together, but by the depth of what we share and the faithfulness with which we live it. Perhaps that is why I wrote Redamancy. It is a reflection on love returned, cherished, and sustained through the years, even as we recognize that every earthly journey eventually comes to an end.
