What the Seaweed Knows

Poet's Dream

This Lake has Secrets

 Hidden beneath

Only on the surface does the water gleam

Down past the Frog and the sinking Log

Past Lilly and Lotus, trapped in the Bog

Nothing reaches down here

Deep in the Muck

Here nothing shines, the Sun won’t bother

And luck is a story the surface told.

There is only grit, there is only grime

You think you’d find a little treasure

A silver dollar, a shiny dime

But meet instead with broken bottles

Tangled weeds, and forgotten time

The Seaweed laughs at how naive you are

Mocking the chance you thought you had

You’re met with heavy, silent shadows

Sinking deeper in the slime.
