HARBOUR GATES

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

The harbour gates
Are closed now
The swing bridge
Left to rust
The footprints
In the concrete
Lay dormant
With the dust.

Its the quietness
That touches
Save birdsong
And the waves
The tyre tracks
Are etched
In memoriam
Like a grave.

The sky seems
Like an etching
Charcoal pencil
Of the scene
Thoughts remain
In tandem
Windswept and distant
Like a dream.

There is a softness to this poem a tender mist like feel, a quiet reverence set by meter and word. A wonderful piece my friend and a fave

    Good write N.
Yes, the harbour gates had to close, as the bus for the outing to the harbour took so long - did it even appear at all?! lol.
I though at canal lock was disused, but it's used on weekend and a weekday barge trips still. Have to pay. But we could try taking a barge to town. Save waiting at this bus stop. lol.

Wonderful poem, Norman! I've always been fascinated by abandoned places, especially those where generations of people once earned their living. I often wish those old buildings could talk. Imagine the stories they'd tell! Much appreciated, my friend! 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛
