Here I sit
On the floor
Nails digging
In carpet shag
Thoughts swimming
Voices nag
My shadow flickers
Like a candle flame
I'm here, aren't I?
I feel so far away
Floating somewhere
In the molecules
I'm made of only
Dust particles
Someday I'll only be
Sand on the beach
Ashes in the pit
Deep out of reach
But I'm here right now
Right?
The floorboards don't answer.
They just hold me up
because they have to
I could drown inside my cup
My eyes are open
Held back with paperclips
I'm afraid if I shut them
Everything will go black
And I’ll truly be nothing.
