Cheese

sorenbarrett

Is it a memory of a mother's milk, soured over years, a pacifier, a soft teething ring.
Warm brie smooth as silk, shavings showered over pizza with beers, an elastic string
From buffalo, goat or cow our babies we allow to feed off the teat of another beast
Yellow or white as snow, down the throat it goes somehow, a sticky treat a gooey feast
We eat it with blue mold, bacteria within its fold, not a second thought given
Some white some gold, aged until it's old, a little taste of constipated maternal heaven

Life belongs to the strongest it seems.
I suppose some will say, God put the animals out there for us to eat.
He might have backtracked with experimenting on them though.
The chain of life as we see it.

    • sorenbarrett

Thanks Paul for the read and comment my friend. Yes life does belong to the strongest including peppers and cheese. Most appreciated

LoL 🤣 although I am a huge fan of cheese and here in Italy we have a devine choice including Pecorino, Gorgonzola and Mozzarella di bufala your poem has somewhat turned my stomache, I can see it smell it and a frown to finish. Great fun. 🧀

      • sorenbarrett

I too have been a huge fan of cheese and have broadened my tastes to many I didn't like as a child but have not had any in a couple of years now due to various reasons. Hope I did not spoil it for you all in good fun

            Hello, Soren,

A platter of dairy delights presented by our omnivore beasts of the field and a poet with a penchant for the stuff. Raised on cheese myself and still love it as I do this poem.

            Bon appetite, my friend,

            Tony.

            • sorenbarrett

Thank you Tony my palate is varied for food as well as poetry and it all takes the same course and usually ends in the same place. Have a wonderful day.

Our two cats like a little cheese at times! lol. Good write SB.

              • sorenbarrett

Thanks so much Orchi for the read yes dogs and cats like a little cheese if not too moldy

                • orchidee

We must no give our guinea pigs lettuce - gives them the trots. They can have cabbage, grass, most other green stuff though. Why, yes, a little fresh cheese for cats and dogs; all the moldy cheese for..... we know her! lol.
Dunno why she complains - saves throwing away the moldy cheese. lol.

A quip by general de Gaulle .
'' How do you want to govern a country where there are 258 varieties of cheese ? ''

                  • sorenbarrett

Thanks Lorenz yes I bet he had a cheesy respose

                  • Tristan Robert Lange

As a vegetarian, Soren, I’d appreciate you leaving a few foods I can eat without an existential crisis. LOL! 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

                    • sorenbarrett

Thanks for the read Tristan. Yea if you look hard enough just about anything we eat you can find a problem with.

And I was just about to get a piece of cheese from the fridge! Really! What a wonderfully imaginative and provocative piece! You take something as ordinary as cheese and transform it into an amusing exploration of its origins, textures, and peculiarities. Your creativity and playful use of language make this a delightfully unconventional read!

                        • sorenbarrett

Thanks so much 'Rodriguez I appreciate you read and comment my friend.

Not really keen on Cheese so erm ...
But John Cleese's Family name is Cheese. But his Father changed it , because it was embarrassing. Which has nothing to do with the Poem, So I'll just sign off.
                          A good Write though.

I'll vote for this Soren - one of a triad of staples on the proteinaceous side of my diet which include unadulterated crunchy peanut butter and yoghurt (plain.)

                              • sorenbarrett

Thanks Dave. You know I am a bit picky about what I eat but that sounds good my friend. Appreciate the read

I especially liked "a little taste of constipated maternal heaven" it summarizes or gets to a bottom line and the imagery in this gives a vivid familiarity.

                                • sorenbarrett

Touché your use of bottom line in that regard was great wordplay. Thanks so much for your read and comment it is most appreciated Apete

very cleverly composed with the three rhyme per couplet thing going on. I love cheese!

                                  • sorenbarrett
