Unwanted hunger

Thornspell.Mick

My body feels like a stranger I despise.

The mirror is a war I never fucking win.

The meds steal my hunger, and I let them.

The scale becomes an obsession I cannot escape.

My mind keeps score of every flaw I see.

I reach for drugs to silence my body’s needs.

I mistake an empty stomach for control.

I watch myself disappear beneath my own skin.

I chase the emaciated reflection I call beautiful.

And still, I am never fucking thin enough.

My body screams for food, but I cannot listen.

Swallowing feels impossible; even hunger feels unbearable.

The meds erase my appetite, and I fade in silence.

I drag myself through each day, exhausted but smiling.

Because if they see me breaking, they’ll know the truth.

  • Comment from author about the poem: As someone who has to rely on medication to be able to get through school and also struggles with 2 eating disorders (anorexia and ARFID(Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder), this poem is about how meds and body image struggles together affect my daily life and eating. One of the main side effects of my medication is loss of appetite which together with eating disorders causes me to lose weight really fast... and sometimes I tend to abuse the drugs too...

Damn shame that the modern world puts pressure on one to have a certain body form, suppresses opportunity for exercise, offers tainted foods and water, disrupts sleep patterns and increases chronic anxieties. Sure appetite will be affected. Good write
